Richard was born in 1573 and his baptism took place on October 9th, 1573 in Wivelscombe, Somersetshire, England.  Richard's father was Robert Bennett and his mother was Elizabeth Edney.  His paternal grandparents were John Bennett and Margery. He had eight brothers and five sisters, named John, John, Johan, Robert, William, Christopher, Edward, Thomas, Margery, Elizabeth, Agnes, Dorothy and Eleanor.  He was the fourth youngest of the fourteen children.
