William was born in 1572 and his christening took place on June 15th, 1572 in Wivelscombe, Somersetshire, England.  William's father was Robert Bennett and his mother was Elizabeth Edney.  His paternal grandparents were John Bennett and Margery. He had eight brothers and five sisters, named John, John, Johan, Robert, Richard, Christopher, Edward, Thomas, Margery, Elizabeth, Agnes, Dorothy and Eleanor.  He was the fifth youngest of the fourteen children.
