Charles was born on March 7th, 1866 in Morgan County, West Virginia.1   Charles' father was Peter V. Ambrose and his mother was Mariah Alice Whisner.  His paternal grandparents were Daniel Ambrose and Anna Nancy Rizer. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Elmira, Samuel, William, Levi, Harry, Anna, Mollie, Lillie, Eva and Amanda.  He was the second oldest of the eleven children. He had five half-brothers named Jesse, Aaron, George, E. and Jeremiah.  He died at the age of 72 in 1938.2
