Jeremiah was born about 1860 in Morgan County, West Virginia.1   Jeremiah's father was Peter V. Ambrose and his mother was Mary Ann Harlan.  His paternal grandparents were Daniel Ambrose and Anna Nancy Rizer. He had four brothers named Jesse, Aaron, George and E..  He was the youngest of the five children. He had six half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Charles, Elmira, Samuel, William, Levi, Harry, Anna, Mollie, Lillie, Eva and Amanda.  He died about 1894.  He was buried in Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Cacapon Dist., Morgan County, West Virginia.2
