Samuel was born on October 20th, 1874 in West Virginia.1   Samuel's father was Peter V. Ambrose and his mother was Mariah Alice Whisner.  His paternal grandparents were Daniel Ambrose and Anna Nancy Rizer. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Charles, Elmira, William, Levi, Harry, Anna, Mollie, Lillie, Eva and Amanda.  He was the sixth oldest of the eleven children. He had five half-brothers named Jesse, Aaron, George, E. and Jeremiah.  He died at the age of 78 on August 28th, 1953 in Morgan County, West Virginia.1
